On July 15, 2025, CEDAW Rising submitted a formal briefing to the UN in response to Human Rights Council Resolution 57/12 on The Role of Local Government in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights.
The briefing highlights how cities and counties across the United States are advancing intersectional gender justice and economic, social and cultural rights through local CEDAW implementation. It includes a case study on housing justice and offers targeted recommendations for UN bodies, national and local governments, civil society, funders and the private sector.
These efforts underscore the vital role of local governments in translating international human rights into community-level outcomes.
