CEDAW Rising is proud to share our latest research memorandum to the Los Angeles County CEDAW Task Force, which offers concrete, department-specific measures to advance gender justice in the critical area of housing.

The memo highlights actionable steps that Library, Finance and Elections Departments can take to address housing insecurity and strengthen equity—for women, LGBTQIA+ individuals and survivors of violence. Examples include:

  • 📚 Libraries: hosting legal aid workshops, offering safe spaces and ensuring inclusive collections.
  • 💰 Finance: embedding gender analyses into budgets, prioritizing funding for transitional housing and establishing participatory budgeting processes that allow women and underserved communities to provide input on funding allocations.
  • 🗳 Elections: ensuring voter access for those in shelters or transitional housing, preventing and addressing voter harassment and tracking gender-based barriers to civic participation.

These recommendations are part of our larger compendium-in-progress: a research-based set of departmental measures for CEDAW implementation.

Local departments are on the frontlines of human rights and can turn CEDAW commitments into meaningful impacts.
